NTT Tourism Towards World Class

This book identifies and explores the potential and capacity of tourism as well as responding to challenges by dissecting strategic steps in managing tourism potential and ecosystem, developing the quality of human resources, marketing effectively, utilizing digital as well as adapting to the new normal era.

In essence, NTT has natural and cultural assets. There are 1,192 islands which are a series of rings of beauty “ring of beauty”. Known as the Flobamora which includes the islands of Flores, Sumba, Timor, Alor, with all its authenticity and uniqueness, both on land and in waters deserves to be a world-class destination.
With all these advantages, we should once again ask: where do you want to take tourism in NTT? Various challenges have colored the journey to become a world-class destination.

This book launch was packaged in a discussion that presented Johnny Plate (Ministry of Communication and Information), Ir. Wiratno MSc (Dirjen KSDAE KLHK) Dra. Ni Wayan Giri MSc (Ministerial Secretary of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy), Budi Tirtawisata (CEO Panorama, Ir. Wayan Darmawa, MSc (Head of NTT Tourism and Creative Economy Office), Alex Jemadu (International Observer) moderated by Claudius Boekan (Senior Journalist).

The admiration, love and passion and commitment to tourism development in NTT were presented candidly by Viktor B. Laiskodat (Governor of NTT), I Gede Ardika (Minister of Culture and Tourism 2000-2004), Saleh Husin (Minister of Industry 2014-2016), A. Sonny Keraf ( Minister of Environment and Forestry 1999-2001), Commissioner Pol. Purn. Gories Mere (Presidential Special Staff 2015-2019), and Rikard Bagun (President Director of Kompas TV).

In the future, NTT as a world-class destination should ensure that all components, value chain elements, and the tourism ecosystem are able to consistently present a holistic and authentic experience. Of course, by continuing to focus on environmental quality, visitor satisfaction and community welfare. The current Covid-19 pandemic has not ended, but efforts to revive NTT tourism can continue. Hopefully this book can further strengthen NTT’s steps towards world-class tourism, while still focusing on the aspects of sustainability and welfare for the community.

Therefore, the model for developing community-based tourism and sustainable tourism must be carried out and ensured that its application is serious by parties such as the community, business actors, academics, media, local governments, and ministries / institutions. The topic of the review in this book is synergized with the spirit of commitment, leadership, collaboration and synergy which is the key to building quality and sustainable tourism. President Jokowi set Labuan Bajo-Flores, NTT as a super priority destination. Evidence and commitment of Governor Viktor B. Laiskodat, SH. MSi who emphasized that the vision of NTT Bangkit, NTT Sejahtera, Towards a Global Destination because the tourism sector is the locomotive and key to NTT’s development.
Dr Sapta Nirwandar, SE., DESS and Dr. Frans Teguh, MA as the authors of this book underlined that the complex dimensions of NTT tourism need to be harmoniously integrated in order to manage the superior potential and development capacity of NTT. This can be done by applying a sustainable and community-based tourism model. Management that will bring NTT to become a world-class destination. The principles of sustainable tourism in favor of the community are necessary so that the economy grows, the environment is sustainable and the local culture is always alive.

We build tourism with character, responsibility, paying attention to economic, socio-cultural and ecological aspects to improve welfare and the digital ecosystem. This book is here to increase the participation of the parties in realizing world-class Indonesian tourism.

Of course, tourism in NTT, which is present in the form of quality destinations, unique local tourism products, organizing international standard events, encouraging local champions with character and superior human resources, who are professional and have a sense of hospitality and have an entrepreneurial spirit, provide information and weighty interpretation, supported by the application of professional governance and destination management in the value chain and reliable tourism ecosystem, smart and responsible marketing is able to ensure the character of tourism with a local is new global synthesis, virtual is new reality, resilience is indeed the sustainability and trust is new currency through the implementation of hygiene, health, safety and environmental sustainability protocols (cleanliness, health, safety, security and environmental sustainability-CHSE).
