Asian-African Youth Congress to Discuss Indo-Pacific Conflict

Jakarta – The 2nd world congress of the Asian African Youth Government (AAYG) will be held next week. The plan is that the congress will discuss several strategic issues, including conflicts in the Indo-Pacific region.

Respiratori Saddam Al-Jihad, AAYG Congress Project Officer, said the world has been experiencing various contemporary problems exacerbated by the presence of the COVID-19. He said Asian and African youth have paid serious attention to the issue in particular of Indo-Pacific constellation.

“We cannot ignore the significant problems that cause instability in the region such as what is happening in the Indo-Pacific region involving the big countries,” Saddam said in his statement, Saturday (11/12).

The presence of superpower countries such as the United States and Russia in the Indo-Pacific, Saddam explained, is due to China’s aggressiveness in the region. Moreover, China is involved in unresolved border disputes with some countries in the Indo-Pacific.

“China’s high claim to the South China Sea by establishing the Nine-Dash Line has created the pressing problems with countries around the South China Sea from Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, and even with Indonesia in Natuna,” he said.

“China is not half-hearted in demanding that Indonesia stop drilling for oil and natural gas in Natuna because it is extremely claimed by its territory,” Saddam continued.

The AAYG Congress is scheduled to be held on December 16-19 2021 in Bandung, West Java. The congress took the great theme ‘The notion of Asian African Youth for the World’s Collaboration on Covid-19 and Beyond’.
