JAKARTA – Chairman of the MPR RI and General Chair of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo revealed, IMI and investors, supported by a well-known consultant Populous, are developing the Bintan Motorsport area, utilizing a land area of about 500 hectares in the Bintan area, Batam. The Bintan Motorsport development master plan will be divided into five zones, namely, fast zone (race circuit), water sport zone, residential zone, mixed used zone, and eco zone.
“Populous is an international consultant who has designed many motorsport arenas. Among others, Silverstone Circuit, Alabama Motorsports Park Circuit, Dubai Autodrome and Business Park, Iceland Motopark, The Circuit of Wales, to The London Grand Prix. Including designing the Mandalika International Circuit, “said Bamsoet after listening to the presentation of the master plan for the construction of Bintan Motorsport, at the IMI Central office, Jakarta, Tuesday (26/10/21).
Populous consultants who attended included Andrew James and Indra Bastian. The chairman of the 20th Indonesian House of Representatives explained that the construction of the fast zone (race circuit) which utilizes an area of about 200 hectares, is targeted for completion in 2023.
It can be used to hold Formula 1 to MotoGP. In addition to international class tracks, supported by beautiful natural scenery in the form of hilly contours, plantations, to artificial river flows that directly penetrate from the sea to the circuit arena area, it can accommodate 50 yachts. Because of the exotic natural scenery, spectators can watch the race on the circuit through the beautiful hills. Strengthened the presence of entry plazas, signature bridges, car parking, to site links.
“In the water sports area, artificial waves will be made to support beach volleyball activities to white water rafting/slalom centres. Meanwhile, the eco zone includes mountain biking, trekking/hiking, viewpoint resorts villas, ropeway, sky bridge, nature trail, bird watching, hotels, cafes/restaurants, mountain sports institutes, to plantation/edible landscapes,” explained Bamsoet.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party explained that in the mixed-used zone area, there will be lodging and culinary for the archipelago by utilizing the potential of the local community’s MSMEs. Supported by the presence of an automotive museum that displays a variety of classic to modern vehicles that have enlivened the Indonesian automotive world. The presence of the museum as part of automotive education for various generations of the nation.
“The location of Bintan Motorsport is very strategic. It only takes about 18 minutes from Hang Nadim Airport, 30 minutes from Ferry Batam Center port, 40 minutes from Nagoya Shopping Center, and 45 minutes from Harbor Bay Batam. “The tourism industry in Bintan is very competitive. It is very appropriate to develop it into an international motorsport arena, as a leading sport automotive tourism destination in supporting the development of Batam to become one of the best tourist cities in Indonesia,” concluded Bamsoet.
