Seoul, South Korea – The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Korea, Gandi Sulistiyanto, attended the “Maekyung Indonesia Forum 2023 on 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Indonesia and Korea” on 16 May 2023 at Hotel Mulia Jakarta. The forum was organised in collaboration between Maekyung Media Group, the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). Ambassador Sulis was present as the guest of honour at the Forum which was attended by more than 200 participants consisting of government officials and Indonesian and South Korean businessmen.
The forum was opened by the Chairman of Maekyung Media Group, Mr. Chang Dae Whan, who emphasised his commitment to promoting Indonesia as an important investment destination for South Korea. His party will also continue to encourage the creation of good networking between the business world of South Korea and Indonesia.
The Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Mr. Luhut Panjaitan, as the keynote speaker, stated that the investment environment that Indonesia has prepared is one of high certainty, in order to launch sustainable investment from South Korea. Minister Luhut also submitted data showing that the implementation of Indonesia’s downstream policies had contributed to the national economy. The growing middle class in Indonesia has become a strong modality for Indonesia as a destination country for investment from abroad, especially for South Korea.
Indonesian Minister of Investment Mr. Bahlil Lahadalia, who was the speaker in the First Discussion session of the “Korea-Indonesia Future Partnership”, reiterated the Indonesian Government’s commitment to accelerate the completion of various ongoing foreign investment projects to encourage national industrialization.
Presidential Chief of Staff Mr. Moeldoko, who was present at the Second Discussion Session “Cooperation in Agri-Food Sector”, invited South Korea to collaborate with Indonesia in increasing open market access for agricultural and food products from the two countries, whose great potential has been far from optimal.
The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of South Korea, Chair of the Committee for Foreign Affairs and Unification of the South Korean Parliament, and Deputy Minister of Investment and Trade of South Korea each also delivered congratulatory speeches at the Forum themed “Stronger Partnership for the Epicentrum for Growth”.
The South Korean delegation led by the South Korean Minister of Agriculture paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Republic of Indonesia on 15 May 2023, facilitated by the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul. The delegation consisted of government officials, members of Parliament, and leaders of a number of South Korean conglomerates. The meeting successfully increased the confidence of South Korean conglomerate companies such as LG Energy Solution and Samsung Electronics to continue investing and expanding their business in Indonesia.
