The legend, Logan Roy, is 80 years old. His business empire is growing. He was getting sick.
But who will he appoint to control the media company, one of the largest in the world?
On a luxury cruise ship, he invited one of his sons to talk heart to heart. One of his subsidiaries is being assaulted. He was too old to face a public investigation.
The media are busy reporting. There’s heard from the United States Congress. In his old age, the legend does not want to get embarrassed in public.
The boy, Kendal Roy, is one of the strong candidates to succeed him. The legend gave Kendal a special task.
This is at the same time a decisive test for the child, whether he is worthy of being the main controller of this business empire.
Logan also tells about ancient civilizations. Sometimes the chief had to sacrifice his favorite child, so that the gods would not be angry. So that the sun stays thin. So that calamities kept away from the community.
Logan asked if Kendal was ready to sacrifice for the business empire. Kendal took over the responsibility. Said Kendal was the one in charge when the case happened. Not her father. Not the legend.

While the legend was silent. But he smiled.

The creator of this mini series, Jesse Armstrong, has also written a screenplay entitled Murdoch. This is the story of the tycoon who is about to succeed, stepping down from the business empire at the age of 78.
Logan Roy is a fictional character from Murdoch. Kendal and Roman Roy, two of Logan Roy’s children, are also the fictional characters of two of Murdoch’s children: James and Lachlan.
The media conglomerate of Logan Roy: Weystar Royco, that is also the fiction of the media cascade of Murdoch: News Corp.
Murdoch owns Fox News. Logan Roy owns the ATN news TV. Murdoch was married four times. Until the second series, which will continue into the third series, Logan Roy has been married three times.
But Logan Roy, out of personal ambition, and unsure of his suitable successor, continues to actively control the business.

I spent three days in late 2020, and early 2021, listening to this series. Total of 20 episodes. That equals a total of 20 hours.
How the succession in the business empire is far more dramatic than the succession in the world of politics.
Who will be the next king or queen at Buckingham Palace, London, for example? If Queen Elizabeth dies or steps down, a successor lineage is established.
Or in a world of democratic politics. Who is the next president, just follow the general election rules. Who wins the election, he becomes the next leader.
But this is a business empire. Power is completely under the control of the founder. Even though this business empire has become a public company, the majority of the shares are still in the hands of his family.
It’s entirely up to the legend. Who he trusts to be a substitute.
He has 3 sons and 1 daughter. Three of his sons competed. All feel more appropriate and competent to be a substitute. All made maneuvers.
Logan Roy the legend once thought of giving the ultimate controlling power to a professional only.
He tried that. But the professionals are not willing to get a little dirty with their hands, get involved in legal problems.
Not to mention his wife a in the present, the third wife, is very jealous. The wife immediately took a hostile attitude when the prospective CEO of this business empire was suspected of having a sexual affair with the legend.
His son several times was impatient with succession. The child openly declared a Vote of No-Confidence to Logan Roy at a shareholder meeting. But the boy was defeated.
His son again wants to take over my father’s kingdom through the share buying and selling route. Again this attempt was thwarted.
Logan Roy, the legend is silent. On the cruise ship, he gazed at the sea. Over and over again he said: the importance of warm family. The importance of a united family.
“I founded this business empire, the end is also for my family.”
But at the end of his life, when he was sick, his children competed with each other. Even now, his beloved son “stabbed him” at press conferences.
