SMSI Sends Five Senior Journalists to the Taiwan Lantern Festival

Taipei – “Taiwan Lantern Festival” (Taiwan Lantern Festival) is one of the interesting cultural and folk arts and popular arts attractions, especially with the touch of modern technology that attracts the interest of many visitors, including foreign tourists.

Five senior journalists who work for cyber press companies that are members of the Indonesian Cyber Media Union (SMSI) received a special invitation and attended the festival.

The five journalists were Aat Surya Safaat (Editor Editor of Asatu online), Retno Intani (Editor’s Board of indonesiatoday.co), Umi Syarifah (Editor Editor of Angle Pandang), Jon Heri (Editor Editor of jodanews.com), and Yono Hartono (Editor Editor of korandetak.com).

“The Taiwan Lantern Festival is only being held again this year after three years of absence due to the pandemic. The festival is an attractive tourist attraction, especially with the touch of modern technology, so that around 10 thousand foreign tourists can attend,” said Director General of the Tourism Bureau of the Taiwan Ministry of Tourism Chang Shi-Chung in Taipei, Sunday (5/2/2023).

Chang Shi-Chung made this statement at an international press conference regarding the “Taiwan Lantern Festival 2023” which was attended by 85 journalists from 17 countries, including five senior journalists from the five Indonesian cyber media.
The festival itself will take place from 4 to 19 February 2023.

After the press conference, Aat Surya Safaat as the team leader handed over SMSI souvenirs which had been signed by the General Chairperson of SMSI Firdaus to the Director General of the Tourism Bureau of the Taiwan Ministry of Tourism.

Taiwan itself is rich in cultural tourism. One of them is the “Lantern Festival” which is held every year in Taiwan on the 15th day of the first month in the Chinese calendar or after the Chinese New Year.

In Taiwan, the festival is also interpreted as the final or closing party for the Chinese New Year, while in Indonesia the event is similar to the Cap Go Meh celebration.

As the core event of the cultural event is flying a lantern which is a symbol of peace and good luck.

The Taiwan Lantern Festival 2023 in Taipei itself has been given a touch of modern technology which allows the use of lanterns to be more attractive coupled with the presence of colorful rays from multi-storey buildings around the event venue on the National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall.

Chang Shi-Chung further stated, starting in 2023 the focus of Taiwan’s tourism industry is to expand the international market and evaluate tourism promotion strategies and launch market development initiatives and increase attractive and sustainable promotions.

In addition, he continued, it is necessary to invite foreign tourists and offer attractive incentives related to international marketing strategies. At the same time all parties related to the tourism industry should be involved in promoting the plan “Accelerate the arrival of international tourists in Taiwan”.

When giving an explanation regarding the “Taiwan Lantern Festival 2023”, Chang Shi-Chung was accompanied by Deputy Director General of the Tourism Bureau Lin Hsin-Jen and Head of Secretariat of the Department of Information and Tourism of the Taipei City Government Hsiao Chun-Chieh.

The international press conference which was attended by senior journalists from 17 countries was interspersed with a question and answer session featuring five questioners, including three from Indonesia.
