Newspaper Reporter Is The Worst Job And The Coming Of Fifth Generation (5G) Technology

by: Denny J. A.

That is the conclusion of the survey conducted by CareerCast. For three consecutive years (2013, 2014, 2015), working in a newspaper was ranked first for the worst type of work. (1)

Many criteria are used to rank rankings, for example stress level, income, future career potential.

The worst of all working at the newspaper is the printed newspaper. This is an industry that will enter the museum. Working in a printed newspaper will be a memory of civilization. The new era is killing the printed newspapers.

Research also shows “Watching is getting more popular than reading.” Especially for the younger generation, if there is a choice of news to read versus the same news that is available in audio visual form, then the audio visual will be chosen.

Information, entertainment, reflection, if you want to reach more audiences, it needs to be shifted to an audio visual form. (2)

The fifth generation of internet technology (5G) is coming soon. This year, 2021, there will be many technologies using 5G.

The civilizational changes that 5G will bring are far greater than the changes that 4G, 3G, 2G, 1G will bring together. (3)

The Smart City era is coming. The city lights will turn off automatically if no one is around. This can save a city’s energy worth 30 trillion per year.

The era of driverless cars is coming. Millions of car accidents can be reduced. Accidents are often caused by human error. Now, there is no human error because a driver is no longer needed.

Doctors are no longer physically visited. Telemedicine has developed. Consultations and medications can be provided remotely.

The virtual world is becoming increasingly dominant. The internet is becoming everything. Internet connection is much faster, more of it, better pictures and everywhere.

The world is becoming more and more united. Audio visual is increasingly dominant.

What is the effect of the above developments, especially for those who work in the world of opinion in the public sphere?

Especially for writers who want to survive in the new era, they must anticipate its effects.

Audio-visual works will last a long time. Meanwhile, those in text form are getting less and less attractive. The text will be left out.

News and information quickly stale. Every second, times change. What will last long is timeless information. That is more devotional; thought.

Even if you respond to a hot issue, always look for a more universal, more reflective essence about the issue.

The times are more and more united. English is a common language. Works written in English, at least if they are videos, have English subtitles, they are more in line with the new era.

I feel the blessing of living in a trendy community with technological developments.

This community formed a team which outsourced many of my books to audio visuals and then provided them with English subtitles.

Six years this community has been working. As a result, until this essay was written there were 70 videos of selected works ranging from 3 minutes to 30 minutes in length.

My book about the story of discrimination in Indonesia in the form of a poetry essay has been “audio-visual”. Together with filmmaker Hanung Bramantyo, the book Atas Nama Cinta has become 5 series of films (30 minutes each).

Also given English subtitles there.

My book about the inner cry of the Corona Virus era, in the form of a short essay, In the Name of Derita, has also been adapted into a video.

FX Purnomo collaborates with top actors: Christine Hakim, Reza Rahadian, Marini, Agus Kuncoro, Ray Sahatepy, Ina Febriyanti, and others, to adapt the book into 8 series of short films (about 15-20 minutes each).

Also given an English subtitle.

Even my non-fiction book, Sprituality of Happiness, a research-based guide to a happy life, has also started to produce audio-visuals.

This book is being styled into a happy life training. It’s a combination of teaching through discussion and meditation.

Each session will start with a video, audio-visual, as a simulation based on the principles of the Spirituality of Happiness book itself.

A total of 70 videos, which visualize my various books and freelance writings can be seen on the Youtube account: Karya Terpilih Denny JA (Playlist).

It’s a playlist that will continue to grow. It can be said that this is a writer’s cultural endeavors to respond to changing times.

Namely, an era that prefers audio-visual over text. Those who prefer to have English elements so that it can be accessed by a global world.

Times are changing. Those who will survive and advance are those who also change. More in accordance with the era. Said Darwin: Survival of the Fittest!
