Two Rainwater Reservoirs to be Used as Tourist Objects

Banjarbaru – The existence of two reservoirs in the South Kalimantan Provincial Government office area will add to tourist attractions in the City of Banjarbaru. It is projected that the construction of the reservoir will not only be used as rainwater storage but also as a tourist site for the community.

“When finished, this reservoir is also prepared for tourist attractions in the form of green open spaces around it,” said Roy Rizali Anwar, Acting Secretary of South Kalimantan Provincial Secretary after accompanying Deputy Minister of PUPR John Wempi Weitipo and member of Commission V DPR RI Rifqinizamy Karsayudha reviewing the reservoir development project in the Office area South Kalimantan Provincial Government in Banjarbaru, Wednesday (21/10).

Roy explained, currently 2 reservoirs are being built in the South Kalimantan Provincial Government Office area. One, at the entrance and exit of the office from the direction of the Grand Mosque and the other one is near the Banua Botanical Garden.

The main function of the reservoir is to collect water as well as control floods.

“The reservoir will later function as a storage for raw water and provide water conservation infrastructure,” said Roy.

Deputy Minister of PUPR, John Wempi, hopes that the construction of the reservoir can be completed on time so that it can be used immediately.

The PUPR Ministry in a series of visits for two days to Thursday (22/10) also reviewed the Alalak bridge project and several strategic projects being worked on by the Ministry of PUPR in South Kalimantan. “The Minister of PUPR sent me to visit, because South Kalimantan needs more attention and touches on infrastructure development in the future,” said Wempi.
He hopes that his presence can find out the conditions of infrastructure development needs in South Kalimantan as well as absorb the aspirations of local governments in South Kalimantan

Meanwhile, Rifqinizamy Karsayudha hopes that the reservoir can be better functioned and developed as a tourist spot. “There needs to be green open space so that it can become a city park for the people of Banjarbaru and its surroundings,” said Rifqi.

Based on data, the reservoir project was carried out through APBN funds by the PUPR Ministry. Using a budget of more than Rp. 14 billion.

Besides the reservoir with an area of more than 6 hectares, there are also inlet and outlet buildings, outlet pumps, raw water pumps, reservoir towers, and a jogging track. The project is carried out in the multi-year 2019 – 2020.

Present at the review was Assistant II for the economic and development sector Syaiful Azhari and the heads of the PUPR Ministry office in the South Kalimantan region.
