On the same occasion, the Chief of South Kalimantan Police, through Senior Commissioner of Police Priyanto, said that Indonesia is a country rich in diversity. However, in the current era of democracy, diversity often triggers tension. “Intolerance and radicalism often start from a narrow understanding of religion and a sense of exclusivity that considers one’s group to be the most correct,” he said. He also added that such ideologies could develop into terrorism if not immediately contained.

Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of Rabithah Melayu Banjar, HM Syarbani Haira, explained that this workshop aims to strengthen national understanding and counter radical ideologies that are developing, especially in South Kalimantan. “Indonesia has agreed on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution as the foundation of the state. There is no place for ideologies that contradict that,” he said firmly.

Syarbani also emphasized the importance of the state’s role in maintaining the stability of the national ideology, not just focusing on physical development alone. He gave examples of several countries that were divided due to negligence in maintaining the state ideology. “We don’t want Indonesia to experience the same thing,” he added.

By holding this workshop, it is hoped that a shared awareness can be realized to maintain unity, strengthen national values, and encourage dialogue and tolerance between each other, for a safer, more peaceful, and more advanced Indonesia.
