Jakarta – In coincide with National Conservation Nature of 2020, Ministry of Environment and Forestry announced the birth of a couple of Java Rhino at Ujung Kulon National Park
Director General of Nature Resources Conservation and Ecosystem of Environment and Ecosystem Ministry, Wiratno, in his written explanation received in Jakarta, Sunday (20/9) said that Java Rhino condition at Ujung Kulon National Park was in good condition marked by the birth of spesies named by Rhinoceros Sondaicus
“Last year, there were four birth of Java Rhino in Ujung Kulon National Park. That birth emphasize that Java Rhino population is increased naturally and give big hope to the continuous life of Java Rhino as a rare species” Wiranto added
Luther and Helen, name the couple of Java Rhino, could be known through monitoring by National Park of Ujung Kulon since March untuk August 2020 by using 93 video cameras
According to Ministry’s data, there were 74 Rhinoes with 40 males and 34 females with age composition are 25 children and 59 are teenagers.
Wiratno convinced that there were good availability food for rare species in Ujung Kulon. That condition became a support life to Java Rhino behavior in present and future.
Inspite of pandemic time, field monitoring through video cameras still continued. Full monitoring and securing activity will be run until the end of December 2020.
“Data taking and habitat observation still continued. Pandemi did not stop field activities of conservation staff in Ujung Kulon National Park and anothers National Park in Indonesia” Wiratno said
According to Wiranto, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, instructed patroli and protection activities in conservation area, including wild animal, still continue and pandemic time.
“The birth of Java Rhino reinforce our optimism and spirit, especially in this difficult time of pandemic. This one of substantial message from Siti Nurbaya Minister. Minister has a chance to give name to both Java Rhino with Luther for male and Helen for female” Wiratno said
In virtual meeting of Environment Ministry from member of G20 countries, Wednesday (16/9), Siti Nurbaya explained that government spend national budget less Rp 4 billion for land rehabilitation and conservation. Including conservation activities in Ujung Kulon National Park as home for one-hornes rhinoceros as a growing population.
Wiratno said that State National Budget for conservation and National Park will be important to ensure rare species from extinction. Java Rhino along with elephant, orangutan, tiger, komodo, are important rare species in the world
