Sarawak – Kuching Consulate General of Republic Indonesia (Konsulat Jendral Republik Indonesia/KJRI) along with Police of Miri in Sarawak, succeed to free eight Indonesia imigrant workers who locked up by their agent.
Kuching Consulate General said that locking up revealed after they received complaint and request from Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (Serikat Buruh Migran Indonesia/SBMI) in Sambas about Criminal act of People-Trafficking and persecution to 14 Indonesia women immigrant worker by Sarawak citizen at Miri City in November 5th, 2020.
As reported by radarkalbar.com, part of siberindo.co group, Kuching Consulate General communicate with all stake holders immediately. Including communication with some of victims to get clear position and condition of them.
After receiving clarity of victims and agents who locked them up, Kuching Consulate General coordinated with Sarawak and Miri Police and give them evidences about Indonesian imigrant worker condition.
Based on coordination between Kuching Consulate General and Miri Police, Miri Police execute liberation operation for Indonesia imigrant workers. Police succeed to free the last eight of Indonesia imigrant workers. According to police, all victims are women between 35 untill 58 years old. Police also arrested Indonesia imigrant workers agent, a woman, with Criminal act of People-Traficking accusation.
Police explained that there were only eight imigrant worker who saved meanwhile the rest have been sent home by imigrant workers agent. Now, eight of imigrant workers are in protection of Miri Police to help further investigation.
Kuching Consulate General ensure that they will always coordinate with Miri Police to monitor this case and give assitance and protection to eight Indonesia imigrant worker.
