WPO-ASEAN Culture of Peace Summit 2024: A Step Toward Global Unity

Selangor, Malaysia – 22-24 November 2024, The 2024 ASEAN Culture of Peace Summit, held in Selangor, Malaysia, marked a significant moment for peacebuilding both in the region and beyond. Hosted by Pertubuhan Skuad Bakti Malaysia (PSBM), the summit brought together influential figures committed to global peace, including the Deputy Minister of Education and Culture, as well as representatives from Switzerland, Sweden, and the Maldives, among other delegates dedicated to peace and diplomacy.

A major highlight of the summit was the election of Datuk Seri Paduka Ramle Bin Mat Dale, the leader of PSBM, as Vice President of the World Peace Organization (WPO) for the ASEAN Zone. This election underscores the growing commitment within the region to the WPO’s mission. In a symbolic gesture of unity, the summit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between WPO and PSBM, solidifying their partnership in promoting a sustainable culture of peace.

Dr. Bambang Herry Purnomo SH MH, President of the WPO, delivered a powerful message to attendees, emphasizing that the WPO is a moral movement, independent of any political agenda. “Our goal is to support the humanitarian and peace initiatives of every member country, working together to reduce violent conflict and build lasting peace,” said Dr. Bambang. Since its establishment in 1997, the WPO has made remarkable strides in its mission, including the installation of World Peace Icons in various countries as symbols of global solidarity.

Through this summit, the WPO ASEAN zone reaffirmed its commitment not only to sustain but also to expand the Culture of Peace throughout ASEAN and across the globe. As the world faces new challenges, the alliances forged at this summit offer renewed hope for a united, peaceful future.
