Intellectual Property (IP) is crucial for all industry players in Indonesia. That is why, every creative economy (ekraf) player must have Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) to maintain the originality of their ideas and protect their work from being claimed by others.
The IPR can be a source of income for creative economy agents. In fact, all of them have a chance to bring their works to the global market. Moreover, the registered intellectual property can also be used as a guarantee of bank credit, as stipulated in PP No. 24 of 2022 concerning Creative Economy.
One of Indonesia’s creative industry players who has proven the benefits for IPR in spreading their wings is Tahilalats. Starting with making digital comics, Tahilalats has received funding for intellectual property to establish a cafe in Bandung.
The Beginning of Tahilalats Journey
Nurfadli Mursyid is the figure behind Tahilalats. Unlike comic stories in general, Tahilalats is famous for the anti-mainstream storyline, as it raises a story describing daily life.
The popularity of Tahilalats as a unique comic strip turned out to have been known abroad. Moreover, Tahilalats has two global versions of Instagram accounts, in English version (@tahilalats.en) and Mandarin version (@tahilalats.cn).

The development of Tahilalats in the creative industry deserves a thumbs up. Starting from “fad” making comic strips, brought Tahilalats to collaborate with famous brands in Indonesia and abroad. Amazingly, the popularity of Tahilalats was “smelled” by international band, Coldplay. In May 2021, Tahilalats had a chance to make comics coinciding with the release of Coldplay’s latest single, Higher Power.
Shortly afterwards, Tahilalats had the opportunity to collaborate again with Coldplay, which was collaborating with South Korean boy group BTS in September 2021. Using a purple background, the comic was created to introduce BTS x Coldplay’s latest single, My Universe.
At the end of 2022, there was a collaboration attracting the attention of many people, where the character of Tahilalats meets a Japanese cartoon character, Crayon Shinchan. The collaboration was carried out in order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Crayon Shinchan.
The collaboration of Tahilalats x Crayon Shinchan turned out to be a very good start. This can be seen from the emergence of a Korean brand, Locknlock, which released a collection of cutlery sets of Tahilalats x Crayon Shinchan editions. Most recently, the local skincare brand, Somethic, released a special edition of the collaboration of Tahilalats x Crayon Shinchan on January 25 to February 24, 2023.
Tahilalats: From Comic to Cafe
After the success of phenomenal comic strips, Tahilalats recently founded a contemporary cafe that was always packed with visitors, namely Toko Tahilalats.
Successfully earning a turnover of up to Rp50 millions per day, Toko Tahilalats has been a proof of success of the development of intellectual property which its sources of funding came from a company developing creative intellectual property, Infia. Unlike cafes in general, the cafe located on Jalan Braga No. 35, Bandung, West Java, has a concept like being in a comic.
Arriving at Toko Tahilalats, Sobat Parekraf will be welcomed with a variety of distinctive interiors and exteriors. Moreover, Toko Tahilalats also provide many such instagrammable spots as giant statues of various funny characters in Tahilalats comics.
After being tired of going around and taking pictures with Tahilalats, Sobat Parekraf can enjoy a variety of delicious dishes from the cafe. Some menus are excellent ranging from hotdog, fried chicken, to ice cream.
So, when are you going to Toko Tahilalats?
