Kadin South Kalimantan Proposes Mekar Putih Port Kotabaru as Strategic Regional Distribution Center

BANJARMASIN – South Kalimantan is not only known for its natural beauty, but also as a strategic position that plays an important role as a gateway to the new National Capital (IKN). In this context, the need for efficient distribution facilities, such as ports, is very important to support smooth sea transportation.

Shinta Lakmi Dewi, Chairperson of the South Kalimantan Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that one of the key steps being pursued is the construction of the Mekar Putih Export Import Port in Kotabaru Regency. According to Shinta, this port will become a vital regional distribution center.

“This port is not only located in a strategic position, but is also right in the middle of the Indonesian archipelago. This provides significant logistical benefits,” said Shinta at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Regional Coordination Meeting which took place at the Rattan In Banjarmasin Hotel, Monday (12/4/2024).

Currently, Mekar Putih Port has functioned as a coal port and a berth for ships. However, in the future, this port is expected to develop further as a main hub for the distribution of goods, both locally and internationally.
