Banjarmasin– Odading suddenly became the topic of conversation, and became a popular food. This is since to the action of Ade Londok whose video was viral, when he ate Mang Oleh’s Odading.
Out of curiosity, Odading Mang Oleh, which is located on Baranang Siang Kosambi Street Bandung, West Java, was suddenly crowded with buyers. Even the Governor of West Java, Riduan Kamil, also came to the stall by wanting to taste Mang Oleh’s odading.
The names are different but the shape and taste are not much different. Odading – the name of a confectionary cake or cake that is now viral on social media, which is claimed come from Bandung, West Java. The name Odading itself is said to have been taken from the Dutch language, ‘o … dat ding’, which means ‘o that thing’, when a Londo child wants the cake and the mother is confused not knowing the name so the sentence o … dat ding, if in English it certainly reads; o …. that thing.
Banjarmasin also has cakes like odading, which is cake untuk-untuk (Banjar language: wadai untuk-untuk). The shape of Banjar style odading is oval (wadai (cake) untuk-untuk lonjong). The untuk cakes Banjar are generally filled with grated coconut, palm sugar, green beans and bananas.
This snack is actually commonly found in various places in Indonesia. Even though it is viral on various social media, it turns out that many people are confused with the term odading, lo millens. This is due to the different names of these snacks in each region. For example, around Central Java, especially the north coast, they call it bolang-baling cake. While around Banyumas or Jogja, the name is glondeng /galundeng.
In Solo, Odading is known as Gembukan or Onde-Onde Ketawa. In Malang, East Java, this food is known as Roti Goreng. Meanwhile in Jakarta, people are more familiar with it as Kue Bantal.
