BANJARBARU – Hundreds of street racers took part in the Sunday Race Part 2 which was held by the Ditlantas Polda and the South Kalimantan Indonesian Motorbike Association (IMI) in the Governorate, Sunday (30/4).
The activity aimed at educating illegal racers is a continuation of the Sunday Race Part 1 at the Satpas SIM Polda Kalsel, Sunday (16/4) evening. Previously in the form of traffic safety materials and coaching clinics, the Sunday Race Part 2 activities consisted of group exercises.
Taking place from 10.00 WITA to 17.00 WITA, Sunday Race Part 2 is attended by around 100 racers on the streets. Even though they used their own motorbikes, the joint training session was not like the usual wild races.
Those participating must use complete safety equipment such as helmets, shoes, jackets and gloves. “All the participants who took part were street racers. They also used their own vehicles and put out their own distinctive styles,” said Edy Sudarmadi, Head of IMI Kalsel.
“Most of them are still young and looking for identity. It seems they really need a good platform to unleash their potential,” he added.
Departing from the enthusiasm of the participants, IMI Kalsel also hopes that the government will respond by providing a circuit. In addition to accommodating potential, the circuit is believed to be able to reduce illegal racing numbers.
“Infrastructure needs to be considered together in order to build interest in the talents of young racers. It is hoped that the existence of the circuit can also suppress illegal racing,” hoped Edy.
On the other hand, Sunday Race will not only focus on racing. IMI Kalsel also plans to accommodate those who like touring to various places, including tourist destinations.
“Not all motorbike enthusiasts are also fond of racing. It can also be touring and other automotive activities,” concluded Edy.
